“Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.” – Heidi-Hayes Jacobs
The message of many of my education technology keynotes is to show students the possibilities of technology, test their potential, give them a meaningful purpose for using technology, and have them take on the responsibility of bettering their world with their use of technology. To introduce students to the possibilities of technology get them to complete different tasks with web tools and apps, such as mindmaps, podcasts, digital stories, videos, podcasts, etc.! But before students embark on any digital project, you need to find the right tools. Check out my new book, Hacking Digital Learning Strategies with EdTech Missions, to discover digital projects where students make a meaningful impact on their communities and the world. I’ve also included my presentation, Survival Tips for Teaching with Technology, with tips and resources.

Find the Right Tool
- Edshelf is a search engine for web tools and apps and many have teacher reviews. You can filter by price, platform, subject, age, and category. No registration is required, but if you register for a free account then you can save your favorite web tools and apps to virtual shelves.
- Common Sense is also a search engine for education tools and apps with ratings and reviews.
- In addition to doing a search for a type of project (comics, poster, games, infographics, grammar, Math, etc.) on TeacherRebootCamp or ShellyTerrell.com, you can search for teacher recommended web tools and apps on these blogs/websites:
- I Learn Technology
- Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day
- Class Tech Tips
- Russell Stannard
- Free Tech for Teachers
- Ozge Karaoglu (Language Learning Focus)
- Nik Peachey (Language Learning Focus)
