Encourage Students to Reflect on Their Growth with This Free Slides Portfolio Template

3 min read
“We do not learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.” Paraphrase of John Dewey’s work

One of the most important ways to end the year is by getting students to reflect on the learning journey in your class. They need to reflect on the purpose of different tasks and projects. They need understand what learning they achieved and think about how to use this learning in their future classes and life. Students also need to own their achievements and feel proud no matter their final grades. I created a hassle free Student Portfolio Google Slides Template below free for you to edit as you like and share with students within minutes. Just follow the instructions below. I’ve also included information about how I assessed the portfolio. This portfolio doesn’t need to have been started at the beginning of the year and only takes about 1 or 2 class periods for students to complete depending on your setup and technology access. Students are given instructions on how to include screenshots or link to their published work. In the notes section, students are provided with reflective questions to answer. • Once students copy the template they edit with examples of their assignments and their reflections. Make sure to provide them with instructions to provide you with the Shareable link so you can access their portfolios.

I assess the following criteria:

  • Work Examples and Reflections- The student attaches accessible examples of their work which meets the requirements and criteria. Each example is followed by a well-developed and thoughtful reflection.
  • Final Reflection- An overall reflection is included which describes the student’s growth throughout the course.
  • Grammar/Mechanics/Spelling- The student makes no errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mechanics.
