Timeline Tools to Document and Analyze the Past

Students can create digital timelines to analyze the past and help teach others. Timelines help students display their research in a dynamic way with photos, clickable links, video, and audio. Creating a digital timeline is engaging and also inspires students to teach others. The timelines students create present history and research in an interactive display. Timeline Tools

  • Sutori is a web tool students can use to create a collaborative digital timelines or interactive presentations with images, text and embedded multimedia, such as Google products, tweets, and more. Students choose from a variety of different templates. Teachers can invite and manage students within the platform.
  • Genial.ly is a web tool for creating interactive digital presentations, infographics, timelines, and more. Students can choose from various beautiful timeline templates. They can add stock photos, text, interactive elements, videos, audio clips and more.
  • Tiki-Toki is a web tool for creating beautifully animated 3D timelines with images, text, and colorful backgrounds. Embed on a website.
  • Read Write Think walks students through the definition of a timeline and creating their own.
  • Myhistro is a web tool and iOS app for creating a digital timeline with text, video and pictures. Students can collaborate and also add to Google Earth.
  • Timetoast¬†is a¬†web tool for creating timelines with images¬†and text description. Embed the animated timeline on a website.
  • Timeline JS is a web tool to create a timeline with a Google spreadsheet. Add images and embed audio clips from Soundcloud.

Shelly Sanchez Terrell (@ShellTerrell) is an award winning digital innovator, an international speaker/consultant, and the author of Hacking Digital Learning with EdTech Missions, The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers, and Learning to Go. She has trained teachers and taught English language learners in over 20 countries as an invited guest expert by organizations, like the US Embassy, UNESCO Bangkok, Cultura Inglesa of Brazil, the British Council in Tel Aviv, IATEFL Slovenia, HUPE Croatia, ISTEK Turkey, and Venezuela TESOL. She has been recognized by several organizations and publications as a leader in the movement of teacher driven professional development as the founder and organizer of various online conferences, Twitter chats, and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Two of the projects she co-organized were shortlisted for ELTons, #ELTChat and the Virtual Round Table Language and Technology online conference. Her greatest joy is being the mother of baby Savannah and Rosco the pug. Shelly has an Honors BA in English with a Minor in Communication and a specialization in Electronic Media from UTSA, a Masters in Curriculum Instruction ESL from the University of Phoenix, and a CELTA from CELT Athens.
