Interview with Noah Geisel, @SenorG: Motivate with Digital Badges!

2 min read

Noah Geisel, @SenorG, is the first person who really taught me about the potential micro-credentials and digital badges have to motivate learners to achieve great things throughout their lives. Noah and I sat down at the Friendly Place in San Antonio a few years back and he began to passionately explain and sketch out his digital badging ideas for an entire district. I had used badges for my online learning conferences, but hadn’t quite used badges with students, yet. Noah got me to see the vision he and a team of amazing thought leaders at Aurora Public Schools had to “Recognize Assets & Open Doors” for students. Fast forward a few short years and now Aurora has one of the best examples of a K12 badging system in the country. Noah also co-founded and hosts #BadgechatK12 on Mondays at 6:30p.m ET. In my new book, Hacking Digital Learning Strategies: 10 Ways to Launch EdTech Missions, each mission is accompanied by a digital badge and also students complete a mission to design a badge to recognize their peers’ achievements or leadership. I recently caught up with Noah and asked him to share his passion and expertise about digital badging.
