Goal: Introduce Pop Culture into the Curriculum

Welcome to Cycle 7 of The 30 Goals Challenge: Make it Meaningful!

Goal: Engage your students with pop culture appropriate for their ages. Teach a lesson with a song or share an example or anecdote from a famous celebrity your students respect. There are several teachers who get students to read, write, and learn their subject matter with pop culture. Check out Amy Burvall’s music videos that teach history with a Lady Gaga flare, teachers who rap to teach math,  Fluency MC who helps students learn grammar through rap, Flocabulary, Fresh Education pop songs for writing and literature, or Nuskool’s lesson plans based on pop culture.

Shelly Terrell

Shelly Sanchez Terrell (@ShellTerrell) is an award winning digital innovator, an international speaker/consultant, and the author of Hacking Digital Learning with EdTech Missions, The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers, and Learning to Go. She has trained teachers and taught English language learners in over 20 countries as an invited guest expert by organizations, like the US Embassy, UNESCO Bangkok, Cultura Inglesa of Brazil, the British Council in Tel Aviv, IATEFL Slovenia, HUPE Croatia, ISTEK Turkey, and Venezuela TESOL.
