“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” ~ Peter F. Drucker

One of the reasons I enjoy blogging is it gives me a place to record my thoughts and beliefs throughout the year. When I read through my posts, I see how I have grown as an educator, read about my struggles, and rediscover those magical moments with my learners. 2013 is around the corner. Another year has passed where we have made an impact on our learners. As the year ends, I believe it is important we reflect on our teaching practice. Educators have tough jobs and if we aren’t participating regularly in some kind of reflective ritual we might miss the ways in which we have grown and ways in which we still need to grow. Before the year ends, let’s reflect.

Goal

Short-term– Read through your journal, blog, or diary where you have reflected throughout the year. Think about the times you felt you shined this year and what you believe contributed to these successes. Think about what you struggled with and create a plan of action to effectively deal with those struggles.

Long-term– Through out the year plan to reflect on each lesson. Think about why the lesson succeeded and how it could be improved. Regular reflection makes us more effective educators.
