Student Video about Technology
@DeronDurflinger shared this video created by one of the students at Van Meter, Josh Porter. Josh presented this video to the superintendents. Many of the students, teachers, and administrators of Van Meter have been presenting to the Iowa legislature and community leaders to help improve the access to technologies at their schools.
Clay Burell’s Keynote
@Cburell posted his keynote address. The presentation slides and address are truly inspiring and delineate his journey in making his classes go beyond school. Unlike many webheads, Clay Burell does not suggest we push educators or students to use web 2.0 tools. Instead, his message ends, “Pull, don’t push.” Those who want to use the tools we should support and see what they can do. Teachable moment again: Show the students the value of assertiveness. An unassertive person would have slinked off like the grandest of dorks, accepting defeat. No More Tests
I love when educators think outside the box! @Thenerdyteacher is doing something significant by not implementing tests for 10 weeks. Instead, he has his students choose what they want to submit as a project on the subject. This can be a Powerpoint, video, essay, or anything. The students also create the rubric that will be used to grade them. Already his students are amazing him. One student created a sculpture to relate the details of the Holocaust that he learned from the book they are reading in class. TED Video: Importance of Play
